Hi everyone,

I’m currently brainstorming ideas for a humorous writing project and I’ve been researching to see what actually works. There are plenty of lists of online, but many feel repetitive or forced.

I’m curious how others judge whether funny book titles are genuinely clever versus just random. Do you look for wordplay, absurdity, or parody? I recently came across a collection of that felt more creative than most. I’d love to hear what styles of you personally enjoy or recommend.

When I decide whether funny book titles are genuinely clever or just random, I look for intention more than surprise. The funny book titles that really stick usually combine wordplay, absurdity, or parody in a way that clearly points to a voice or premise, rather than tossing out nonsense for a quick laugh. Absurdity works best when it’s specific and grounded in some internal logic, and parody lands hardest when it understands and accurately mimics the genre it’s skewering.
