Hi everyone,

my youngest son is graduating high school next spring and we are finally planning his milestone portraits. He is deeply passionate about music and has played the heavy contrabass tuba in the marching band for four consecutive years.

He absolutely insists on featuring this gigantic, gleaming brass instrument in almost every single photo setup. I’m worried it will look incredibly awkward, bulky, and completely overpower his face in the framing.

Has anyone successfully managed to integrate large musical instruments or bulky sports gear into milestones seamlessly without it looking totally goofy?

Thanks in advance.

You should absolutely let him bring his instrument along because those personal elements make the memories so much more meaningful!

A skilled photographer won't just have him stand stiffly holding it; they will use creative angles, reflections on the polished brass, or have him sit casually with it on a stadium bleacher to create a cool, editorial look.

When my daughter wanted to include her giant volleyball equipment in her own milestone portraits, the professional specialized in custom Senior pics knew exactly how to balance the lighting and composition perfectly so her personality still took center stage!
