Getting your AirPods to play nice with your Mac is usually a seamless "it just works" moment, but occasionally Bluetooth needs a little manual nudge.

How to Connect Your AirPods to Mac

  1. Open the Case: Keep your AirPods in their charging case and open the lid.

  2. Enter Pairing Mode: Press and hold the Setup button on the back of the case (or the noise control button on AirPods Max) until the status light flashes white.

  3. Open Mac Settings: On your Mac, click the Apple menu () > System Settings (or System Preferences) and click Bluetooth.

  4. Find Your AirPods: Look for your AirPods in the list of "Nearby Devices."

  5. Connect: Click Connect next to your AirPods’ name.

Pro Tip: If you’re already signed into the same iCloud account on your iPhone and Mac, your AirPods might already be in the list! Just click the Volume icon in your menu bar and select them as the output.
