Hi everyone,

I’m looking for advice on dealing with glass doors in my home. One of my doors has a cracked glass panel, and I’m debating whether it’s better to repair or fully replace it.

I’m unsure about the cost differences, the tools and materials needed, and any safety precautions I should take. Has anyone done this before? Are there situations where repair is clearly better than replacement, or vice versa?

Any step-by-step guidance, recommended materials, or professional tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance for your insights!

Hi!

For a cracked glass door panel, it’s usually safest and most durable to replace the entire panel, especially if the crack is large or the glass is tempered. Small chips or hairline cracks can sometimes be repaired with epoxy or resin, but these fixes are mostly cosmetic and won’t restore full strength. If you’re considering long-term solutions, a safety glass upgrade for commercial entrances can provide extra durability and protection.

When replacing the glass, it’s important to wear gloves and goggles, remove the door if possible, carefully take out the old glass, clean the frame, and install the new glass securely, sealing the edges with putty or silicone.

Having someone help with lifting or holding the panel is highly recommended to avoid accidents.
