Hi everyone,

I’m planning to insulate my garage in Florida and could use some advice. With the hot, humid climate here, I’m unsure which insulation type is best, fiberglass batts, spray foam, or rigid foam board. I want something that will help keep the space cooler in summer and protect against moisture, without causing mold issues.

Also, should I focus on walls, ceiling, or both? Are there any local building codes or tips specific to Florida garages I should know about? Any product recommendations, installation tips, or lessons learned would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Hi! For Florida garages, spray foam insulation is generally the best option because it provides high R-value, acts as a moisture barrier, and prevents mold issues. Rigid foam board can work for walls but needs careful sealing, while fiberglass batts are less ideal due to potential moisture problems. When planning insulation installation for Florida garages, you should insulate both the walls and the ceiling. Ceiling insulation helps block heat from above, and wall insulation keeps the space comfortable, especially if the garage is attached to your home. Make sure to seal gaps around doors and windows and check local codes for required R-values. Proper ventilation is also important.
