A trip to Kyrgyzstan is on the calendar for a conference at the end of May. The plan involves giving a presentation and catching some talks from colleagues, but exploring the country in the free time is the main goal. Since a return visit is probably a long shot, seeing the local sights seems like a huge priority. Does anyone know if the usual global rental brands operate there or if the local companies are a better bet for a car?

Conferences in late May usually happen right when the mountain weather starts to get actually decent. The scenery in that region looks incredible once the spring green hits the valleys. Most travelers lean toward the bigger names for peace of mind. Enterprise sometimes has a presence through local partners in the capital city. Plus Sixt often has reliable vehicles available and their support stays fairly consistent across that part of the world.

Mountain roads in that part of the world definitely put a lot of stress on the brakes and suspension. A reliable engine makes a massive difference when the elevation starts to climb past a few thousand feet. You can check out car rental options in Kyrgyzstan here https://getrentacar.com/en-US/kyrgyzstan . The listings show the specs for every available vehicle. The price for the entire duration stays visible so the numbers are easy to track.
