Hello, stranger!
Article about social network to find new friends:
12 Friendship Apps That'll Help You Meet New People. It used to be that making new pals was as easy as recess in the schoolyard. Adulthood, however, poses its own obstacles to finding your ride or die—the least of which are crammed schedules, parental duties, and not wanting to leave your comfort zone, especially if you're an introvert.

But these platonic relationships can be so vital. Just as dating apps have helped to solve the dilemma of finding love in the digital age, apps to make friends are working to fill another void. For those looking for a new workout buddy or kindly neighbor to get coffee with on the weekends, try Bumble BFF. Dog lovers can find companions on Pawdates. Avid readers can get an online book club started with like-minded people around the world using Skout. Or, take a quick survey on the app Friender to help match you with a potential new BFF. Options abound, so read on for the best friendship apps that can both help you expand your network and find the Gayle to your Oprah (or vice versa). Bonus: Most of them are free. A simple way to join a like-minded social circle, Meetup matches people based on their shared interests. Read: female programmers, bar hoppers, and even nature photographers. Themes range from general (Free Comedy and New Friends NYC) to niche (Southern California Bulldog Crew), and you can search by demographic, so you don’t land at a happy hour with a bunch of 20-somethings—unless you want to! Cost: Free. If you like to take your time getting to know new people before jumping into a friendship, Yubo is a social networking app that lets you swipe to find new friends, chat with them in app, explore different interest groups, and even live video stream with your new acquaintances. Cost: Free. The female-centric Bumble dating app burst onto the scene in 2014. Since then, the founder has launched the buzzy BFF mode as a way for women to meet women simply wanting friends. And though the swipe-happy app is a hit with younger millennials, there are success stories belonging to those born before the early ‘80s. Cost: Free. Created to empower women through female friendship, Hey! VINA is touted as “the Tinder for girlfriends.” But the Tinder-ness begins with the user interface and ends with the algorithm. That’s a tech-fancy way of saying that just like the dating app, you swipe left and right on possible lady friends based on proximity, mutual friends, and quiz data. Once you match, the app suggests a spot to meet, like a hiking trail or a wine bar. Cost: Free, VIP subscriptions start at $6 a week. It’s a beautiful day in the neighborhood, but do you even know your neighbors? A private social networking app, Nextdoor is your window to everything happening in your neighborhood, be it block events, furniture swaps, or even car break-ins. Beyond being just a news source, though, the app encourages in-person meetings, leading to new friendships. Cost: Free. Whether you’re looking for a workout buddy or a purely platonic pal to paint the town with, Friender just might be the way you meet your future partner in fun things. After an introductory survey that has you choose the activities you’re interested in, the app suggests people (men are included on this one) who match with at least one of your favorite activities.

Looking to build new friendships? These tips can help you meet people, start a conversation, and cultivate healthy connections that will improve your life and well-being. Why are friends so important? Our society tends to place an emphasis on romantic relationships. We think that just finding that right person will make us happy and fulfilled. But research shows that friends are actually even more important to our psychological welfare. Friends bring more happiness into our lives than virtually anything else. Friendships have a huge impact on your mental health and happiness. Good friends relieve stress, provide comfort and joy, and prevent loneliness and isolation. Developing close friendships can also have a powerful impact on your physical health. Lack of social connection may pose as much of a risk as smoking, drinking too much, or leading a sedentary lifestyle. Friends are even tied to longevity. One Swedish study found that, along with physical activity, maintaining a rich network of friends can add significant years to your life. But close friendships don’t just happen. Many of us struggle to meet people and develop quality connections. Whatever your age or circumstances, though, it’s never too late to make new friends, reconnect with old ones, and greatly improve your social life, emotional health, and overall well-being. The benefits of friendships. While developing and maintaining friendships takes time and effort, healthy friendships can: Improve your mood. Spending time with happy and positive friends can elevate your mood and boost your outlook. Help you to reach your goals. Whether you’re trying to get fit, give up smoking, or otherwise improve your life, encouragement from a friend can really boost your willpower and increase your chances of success. Reduce your stress and depression. Having an active social life can bolster your immune system and help reduce isolation, a major contributing factor to depression. Support you through tough times. Even if it’s just having someone to share your problems with, friends can help you cope with serious illness, the loss of a job or loved one, the breakup of a relationship, or any other challenges in life. Support you as you age. As you age, retirement, illness, and the death of loved ones can often leave you isolated. Knowing there are people you can turn to for company and support can provide purpose as you age and serve as a buffer against depression, disability, hardship and loss. Boost your self-worth. Friendship is a two-way street, and the “give” side of the give-and-take contributes to your own sense of self-worth. Being there for your friends makes you feel needed and adds purpose to your life. Why online friends aren’t enough. Technology has shifted the definition of friendship in recent years. With the click of a button, we can add a friend or make a new connection. But having hundreds of online friends is not the same as having a close friend you can spend time with in person. Online friends can’t hug you when a crisis hits, visit you when you’re sick, or celebrate a happy occasion with you. Our most important and powerful connections happen when we’re face-to-face. So make it a priority to stay in touch in the real world, not just online. What to look for in a friend. A friend is someone you trust and with whom you share a deep level of understanding and communication. A good friend will: Show a genuine interest in what’s going on in your life, what you have to say, and how you think and feel. Accept you for who you are. Listen to you attentively without judging you, telling you how to think or feel, or trying to change the subject. Feel comfortable sharing things about themselves with you. As friendship works both ways, a friend is also someone you feel comfortable supporting and accepting, and someone with whom you share a bond of trust and loyalty. Focus on the way a friendship feels, not what it looks like. The most important quality in a friendship is the way the relationship makes you feel—not how it looks on paper, how alike you seem on the surface, or what others think. Ask yourself: Do I feel better after spending time with this person? Am I myself around this person? Do I feel secure, or do I feel like I have to watch what I say and do? Is the person supportive and am I treated with respect? Is this a person I can trust? The bottom line: if the friendship feels good, it is good. But if a person tries to control you, criticizes you, abuses your generosity, or brings unwanted drama or negative influences into your life, it’s time to re-evaluate the friendship. A good friend does not require you to compromise your values, always agree with them, or disregard your own needs. Tips for being more friendly and social (even if you’re shy) If you are introverted or shy, it can feel uncomfortable to put yourself out there socially. But you don’t have to be naturally outgoing or the life of the party to make new friends. Focus on others, not yourself. The key to connecting to other people is by showing interest in them. When you’re truly interested in someone else’s thoughts, feelings, experiences, and opinions, it shows—and they’ll like you for it. You’ll make far more friends by showing your interest rather than trying to get people interested in you. If you’re not genuinely curious about the other person, then stop trying to connect. Pay attention. Switch off your smartphone, avoid other distractions, and make an effort to truly listen to the other person. By paying close attention to what they say, do, and how they interact, you’ll quickly get to know them. Small efforts go a long way, such as remembering someone’s preferences, the stories they’ve told you, and what’s going on in their life. Evaluating interest. Friendship takes two, so it’s important to evaluate whether the other person is looking for new friends. Do they ask you questions about you, as if they’d like to get to know you better? Do they tell you things about themselves beyond surface small talk? Do they give you their full attention when you see them? Does the other person seem interested in exchanging contact information or making specific plans to get together? If you can’t answer “yes” to these questions, the person may not be the best candidate for friendship now, even if they genuinely like you. There are many possible reasons why not, so don’t take it personally! How to make new friends: Where to start. We tend to make friends with people we cross paths with regularly: people we go to school with, work with, or live close to. The more we see someone, the more likely a friendship is to develop. So, look at the places you frequent as you start your search for potential friends. Another big factor in friendship is common interests. We tend to be drawn to people who are similar, with a shared hobby, cultural background, career path, or kids the same age. Think about activities you enjoy or the causes you care about. Where can you meet people who share the same interests? Meeting new people. When looking to meet new people, try to open yourself up to new experiences. Not everything you try will lead to success but you can always learn from the experience and hopefully have some fun. Volunteering can be a great way to help others while also meeting new people. Volunteering also gives you the opportunity to regularly practice and develop your social skills. Take a class or join a club to meet people with common interests, such as a book group, dinner club, or sports team. Websites such as Meetup.com can help you find local groups (or start your own) and connect with others who share similar interests. Connect with your alumni association .

Has a stroll through a park ever taken you down memory lane, compelling you to think about the times when you used to hang around with your friends? John from next door, Claire from school, or George who used to sit beside you on the school bus? You might think about these friends all the time. When we move on from high school, the number of our friends starts decreasing. But even though we are not in touch with the people we befriended when we were children, we still have a group of enthusiastic teenagers who we call friends. Then, college happens. Friends move to different schools, and we, too, move on with our lives and let the college get the better of us. At college, we find a few faithful friends and hope to stay in touch with them. But then once we enter work life, we often slowly lose touch with almost all of our friends. Our lives now revolve around a series of deadlines and projects. It is not that we have completely lost our friends. We tag each other on Facebook posts and share old pictures. But there is distance, work, and family between us and our friends. Gone are the days when we can meet for a Saturday night out. All of us are living far away, and there is never a perfect time for everyone to come together to have lunch, dinner, or even a few drinks. This may leave people lonely, or surrounded by a limited number of people who don't bring anything exciting and fresh to our lives. This loneliness from not having a friend to share life experiences with isn't limited to people living alone. Regardless of how much you love your job and how loving your immediate family is, you likely have the urge to meet new people and expand your social circle. Meeting new people is an experience worth pursuing on its own merits. Every person has a unique way of looking at the world. When you meet new people, you learn about different perspectives, which in turn make you more empathetic. Making new friends is not about reaching a celebrated number that only a few can reach. It is about meeting different people who may have experiences different than you. Your school and college friends are, to a large extent, exposed to the same experiences and same environment that you were exposed to. When you meet people from different backgrounds—and sometimes even from different countries—you get to know learn their unique experiences and have a broader view of the world. It is true that it is more difficult to make new friends as we grow older. But as an adult, friendships are not about play dates or sleepovers. You need a friend who can be by your side when you are down, who can lift you up when you are overwhelmed by the challenges that life throws at you, or who can just accept you as you are. After all, it has been shown that having friends can make you happier . In this digital age, social networking and dating apps have caged people inside their houses. You can sit beside a person for hours on a bus every day and still not know their name. Why? Because you are more interested in checking out the photos posted online by someone from work. It seems a difficult and nearly impossible task to venture out into the world and find new friends. And since we often don't know how to meet new people, we remain inside our houses binging on TV shows and movies. But in this article, we'll explore the 47 best places where you can go to make new friends and live a happier life. ( Side note: One proven way to improve your happiness and life satisfaction is to focus on goals that truly matter. To get started, check out this FREE printable worksheet and a step-by-step process that will help you set effective SMART goals. ). What You Will Learn. The 47 Best Places for Making New Friends. There are billions of people in this world, and there is no way that you've already met all of them. But from your local grocery store to the bank you visit every month, there are a large number of places where you can meet new people . You may be familiar with the mantra that encourages you to “Say yes” to new things and not hold yourself back. You have to apply that same mantra in your life when it comes to finding new friends. You may be surprised to know that many of the places you go every day without even thinking about it are places where you can make new friends. 1. Bars. Let's begin by talking about the “obvious” and easiest place to meet new people. Almost every other romance novel talks about the protagonist finding the love of their life in a cool bar they went to with their friends. Even with platonic relationships, a bar is a place where you can definitely find someone to become friends with. On weekend nights, bars are crowded with cheerful people who are interested in sharing drinks with strangers and getting to know them better. There are better chances of making a new friend at a bar than anyplace else—so do the obvious and go to a bar to meet new people. Be more approachable, and enjoy the experience! 2. Public Transport. The public transport system brings a lot of people together. Have you seen the videos shot inside the Metro where strangers start singing pop songs together just to kill time on their long commutes? YouTube is filled with such videos, and it will warm your heart to see the extent to which different people connect with each other. We understand that when people are on buses or trains, they are often preoccupied with their various thoughts. Some are lost behind a book, wandering in a magical land. You shouldn’t disrespect their boundaries and start asking them all kinds of questions just because you think they might be interested in talking with you. But the next time you see someone reading your favorite book, casually strike up a conversation. If they show a willingness to talk with you, you can have a conversation with them. Then share your phone number (with consent) and lay the foundation of a good friendship started at an unexpected place. If you already use public transportation for daily commutes, don't hesitate to strike up a conversation with people who commute on the same route.

Please do your own research before making any online purchase. When you think of your childhood friends, a lot of names probably come to mind–and you may even still be in close touch with some of them. You had friends everywhere–at school, on your sports team, at church, in the neighborhood… In fact, up until you reached emerging adulthood, making friends was almost done for you. You were surrounded by same-aged peers who were at a similar life-stage as you, so you naturally had a lot in common. But now that you’ve become settled, you may realize you haven’t made a new friend in a while. Your life path has started to veer off from the lives of people from your childhood and you’ve now ended up in different places with different priorities. Some are working full-time jobs, others are settling down into serious relationships, and you may even know a few people who are starting to have children. Or, maybe you’re new to your city and your career is thriving…but your social life…is not. It takes work to make friends as an adult. However, fostering new friendships is worth the effort, as loneliness is the biggest threat to public health, and its cost is expected to worsen. In fact, research shows that social isolation can significantly increase one’s risk for premature mortality resulting from chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease, cancer, and depression. While it may be hard to make friends because we all have our own daily routines, putting yourself out there by meeting new people and developing relationships is necessary for your emotional and physical wellbeing as an adult. So in this article, we will look at 15 social hobbies that you can engage in that will help you meet people and make new connections. After all, studies show that the more you socialize, the more satisfied you will be with your life. Let’s take a look. What You Will Learn. 15 Social Hobbies to Meet People and Make Connections. 1. Join a Running Club. This is a popular hobby to meet new people because most people want to stay fit–and joining a running club is a way to stay physically healthy while also meeting new friends. Running by yourself can get old quickly–even with the world’s best playlist. Plus, maintaining the motivation to increase your speed or distance is difficult when there isn’t anyone cheering you on. Many fitness bloggers (such as A Pretty Place to Play and Eclectic Cake) insist that people in running groups are extremely supportive and welcoming. And if you’re nervous people will be judging you, you will soon find out that everyone felt like that at some point, so members are likely to go out of their way to not make you feel like that. 2. Volunteer. I met one of my closest friends about six years ago while I was volunteering. In fact, she ended up being one of the people who wrote a letter of recommendation for me when I was applying to graduate school! Volunteering will let you make constructive use of your free time while giving back to your community, so find a place that interests you that could use some extra manpower. In the process, you will meet like-minded people that you already have something in common with. What’s more, volunteering has several benefits to offer. In addition to making new friends, you can learn new skills, add a variety of experiences to your resume to enhance your career, and help protect both your mental and physical health by combating stress, fighting depression, and offering you a sense of purpose. But coming back to meeting new people, one of the best ways to foster new relationships is to engage in a shared activity. Volunteering will help strengthen your ties to your community and grow your support network as you do fulfilling work with other locals who want to give back. 3. Go to the Dog Park. If you have a canine buddy, find a local dog park or an organized dog-walk meetup group. People are so passionate about their animals, so while your four-legged friend is socializing with others, you can do the same. You already have something to talk about–your dogs! If you continue to go to the same park or walk with the same meetup group, it won’t be long before you start recognizing faces (both human and non) and learning more about the people and their lives outside of their furry friend. Resource: Here is a link where you can find the dog walk meetups in your area. 4. Join a Book Club. …or start one! Think about how frequently you finish a book and are bursting to talk about it with someone! Being in a book club will give you that chance to discuss the books, share your personal insight, your likes/dislikes, and hear what other people’s perspectives are. This is an obvious choice for those of you who love to read, and a beneficial choice for everyone. Look around on Facebook for local book groups or ask a colleague or friend if you can join theirs. If no one has suggestions, invite some people to your own club and tell them to invite other people they know to come along too.
